The workshop at the rear of CHARMOUTH FOSSILS where Tony and Rick prepare, preserve and present fossils.

AMMONITES

Tony using the stone chisel on a large ammonite from Portland Bill in Dorset.

The fossil is encased in portland stone, a very hard chalk, great care has to be taken.

' Hope I hit this right '

FOSSIL FISH

Tony using the pneumatic air tool on a fossilised fish from Wyoming USA which is circa 55 million years old.

The fish is in lime stone and they can only be discovered at night by using a torch to pick up shadows from the shapes in the stone.


A strange fish without a dorsal fin.
